StarLight Cameras for Better Night Vision

See more after dark without cranking up the lights. Our Starlight-class cameras pair a sensitive image sensor with a motorized 2.8–12 mm lens so we can zoom and focus from the app/NVR—no ladder re-aiming—while True WDR and H.265 keep details clear and storage efficient. Typical Starlight models list 0.008–0.001 lux color sensitivity (scene and F-number dependent).

Why Choose Smart Shield Systems Starlight Cameras

  • Better night vision: optimized sensors + fast optics for cleaner color in low light; IR takes over cleanly when it’s truly dark.

  • Motorized 2.8–12 mm lens: dial framing from wide ~105–114° to tight ~34–32° remotely.

  • Pro tuning: we set shutter, gain, IR, and 120 dB True WDR for headlights, porches, and backlit entries.

  • Clean PoE install & rugged housings (IP66/67; domes often IK10) for long service life.

Key Features

  • Starlight/DarkFighter/LightHunter class low-light imaging for clearer detail in dim scenes (specs like 0.008 lux @ F1.2 to 0.001 lux @ F1.0 depending on model).

  • Motorized varifocal 2.8–12 mm lens with autofocus for precise framing after install.

  • True WDR (~120 dB) to balance bright doorways and deep shadows.

  • IR night vision typically up to ~40 m / 131 ft on mainstream 4MP Starlight domes/bullets.

  • Efficient recording: H.265/H.265+ codecs; many models support edge microSD (often 256–512 GB).

Technical Highlights (Representative Class)

  • Resolution: 4 MP common; 8 MP (4K) variants available (model-dependent frame rates).

  • Field of view: about ~105° → ~34° (some list ~114° → ~32°) across 2.8–12 mm.

  • Low-light spec examples: 0.008 lux (F1.2) Starlight; advanced units list 0.001 lux (F1.0).

  • Housing & power: IP66/67, domes often IK10; PoE (802.3af) networking.

Popular Use Cases

  • Front and back entries with strong backlight (glass doors, shop fronts)

  • Driveways, alleys, and small lots needing clearer color before IR kicks in

  • Lobbies and hallways where a wide start and later “tighten-in” is helpful

Frequently Asked Questions

How much zoom range does 2.8–12 mm give me?

A lot. You can go from a wide ~105–114° view at 2.8 mm to a tighter ~34–32° view at 12 mm, ideal for dialing in faces, gates, or lanes—without moving the camera.

What does “Starlight” actually mean?

It’s enhanced low-light imaging (sensor + optics + processing) that maintains cleaner color at very low illuminance—specs commonly cite 0.008 lux @ F1.2 and, on advanced models, 0.001 lux @ F1.0. When it’s truly dark, integrated IR provides crisp monochrome video.

How well do these handle headlights and backlit scenes?

Very well when tuned correctly. True WDR (~120 dB) and proper shutter/IR settings reduce headlight glare and balance bright doorways with interior shadows. We set this during commissioning.

What night range should I expect?

Typical Starlight domes/bullets list ~40 m (131 ft) IR; exact reach depends on the model and scene reflectivity. We’ll spec accordingly and verify on site.

Will it work with my recorder?

In most cases, yes. Starlight models we install use H.265 and standard protocols and often include edge microSD for backup; we confirm ONVIF/event mapping for your NVR/VMS.
